A Comparison Of 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' And 'Suicide In The Trenches' Suicide in the trenches focuses on the meaningless life in the trenches and that a quick death ends it all where as Dulce Et Decorum Est focuses on the suffering and torture of a slow death. Sassoon's style of poetry and language is simplistic when compared with Owen's. Tips! He states the bare facts and the wasted life of a soldier and Owen's style is more complicated and complex as effective and brutal imagery is conveyed into the reader's head. It conveys the horrors in details and the slow suffering of a victim of a unexpected yet dreaded gas attack. Presentation of Suffering in Dulce et Decorum est and The Sentry. The selection of the words The sentry's body rather than simply The sentry gives the idea that the man's body fell down the steps first, and engg thesis that his mind may have followed later, as if he were in a trance, or were particularly panicked.

Owen also uses description based on animals: In Dulce et Decorum est, the soldiers are compared with horses: But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame. Words such as den and herded in The Sentry give the idea that the situation is below the most basic standards of civilisation. Compare and dr king plagiarized thesis contrast 'MCMXIV' by Philip Larkin and 'Six Young Men' by Ted Hughes. 'MCMXIV' by ms electrical engg thesis, Philip Larkin Larkin's poem consists of four stanzas, each of eight lines. He also makes his poem dependent on tips only one pair of ending rhymes, on lines four and eight (Park/lark, play/day, men/again and ms electrical the half-rhymes lines and limousines). This means that the poem is less structured than we expect and sounds more natural when spoken out loud. His title is in business tips Latin numerals, MCMXIV because this is how the date 1914 would be carved on a war memorial. George and Lennie- COmparison and Contrast. Ms Electrical Engg Thesis! Steinbeck differentiates George and Lennie from each other on their mental and physical appearance and strength, George a small man and his opposite Lennie a huge man.

In their physical appearance George was visualized with defined body parts and with strong features while Lennie with a shapelss face. In terms of mental ability, Steinbeck said that Lennie has a mild mental disorder that made him the weakest character in the novel. While George, compared to the titans statement Lennie, he is the boss, he decides on everything they will do and Lennie depends on what he say. Thesis! Discuss the ways in which the authors present child family relationships in Praise song for my mother and Childhood. Online Help With Thesis! children who were rough where he almost has connotations of blaming them for separation from ms electrical engg, what they thought were 'lesser' citizens, he tends to refer to the childhood he lived as a young boy who was bullied on his way to and from school. However when one delves deeper into the poem and attempts to read between the lines the reader can pick up a tone of blame, a tone of resentment and help with a tinge of sorrow! It would seem as though Spender, through his writing, is revealing his resentment towards his parents for thesis isolating him from his peers, sheltering him from the real world and being overprotective!

Poetry and Melancholy in thesis Sheers Examination of Welsh Identity. However, these lyrical and pastoral influences must always be intertwined with a tragic note, since reliance on ms electrical engg thesis things such as the mining industry have resulted in service a scarring of both the ms electrical thesis, land and the people. Resistance and Skirrid Hill reflect not only the aforementioned influences, but also the elegiac note of death, deterioration and media disillusionment. Resistance tells the story of farm women in a remote Welsh valley, abandoned by their husbands, forced to toil the unforgiving land in order to survive. Larkin and Abse on ms electrical relationships. The essay will discuss this contrast by thesis, examing Larkins Whitsun Weddings, Wild Oats and Arundel Tomb, and Dannie Abses Imitations and Sons. Ms Electrical Thesis! As Larkin sat down on the hot train seat he began to feel a sense of relaxation.

At last he could sit quietly and make his observations. With Thesis! The brilliant sunlight was almost blinding and the heat had further heightened the smell emanating from the already very smelly fish dock. So we can sense that the start of the journey is not scenic and the air is not aromatic but Larkin appears reasonably content about his forthcoming journey. In both In the thesis, Suburbs and Richard Cory, the poets present the concept that having money is not the most significant aspect of life. The poets' representations of a suburbanite and a rich man defy the classic view that achieving success and possessing money can make someone contented, because neither of the characters in the poems seem to be pleased with their situations. In both In the Suburbs and Richard Cory, the poets present the writer, concept that having money is not the ms electrical engg thesis, most significant aspect of life. Living in the suburbs implies that one is neither extremely wealthy nor poor, yet the speaker of the poem is unhappy despite his stable lifestyle. Online With Statement! Compare the engg thesis, ways in which Larkin and tips Abse write about memory and time. In your response you must include detailed critical discussion of at least two Larkin poems. Another theme of Larkin is his dissatisfaction when looking upon his memories and the way in which time has defeated him and engg thesis this is evident in help thesis statement the repetition of 'unsatisfactory'.

In comparison, Abse looks back upon his life growing up in engg Cardiff in 'Return to Cardiff' but he almost mocks his immaturity and planning tips his anticipation of what to expect, 'less a return than a raid', when he did look back on his childhood. Larkin's tone is much darker and negative, for example he says he 'idly' wasted his time when he reminisces. Larkin often seems to criticise society. In the ms electrical engg thesis, light of this statement, what connections have you found between the ways in which Larkin and Abse write about the society in which they live? In your response include at planning tips, least two of Larkins. Abse is also very proud of the society from which he grew for example he is proud of thesis, being Welsh. Larkin labels and stereotypes the working class with a superior view in topics for research paper Nothing To Be Said, for ms electrical engg thesis example in the first stanza he describes the working class as 'small-statured cross-faced tribes', giving the impression that he views the remember, working class as poorly developed, and a sense of savagery and it is possible to ms electrical engg assume that Larkin viewed them as not very intelligent also. A comparison of Andrew Marvlls Bermudas and Richard Lovelaces To Althea, From Prison. This would have been for his own safety, as the poem was written at a time when criticism of Cromwell was punishable with imprisonment. The poem concludes in another quatrain, once again from the topics paper, perspective of the narrator.

Although it appears rather optimistic in tone, 'Thus sang they. An holy and a cheerful note,' the engg, fact that the sailors are still rowing, 'with falling oars they kept the time,' suggests that they have not landed on the grassy stage mentioned in remember the titans thesis statement the song. How do poets celebrate life? Two poems that discuss moments or situations where life can be celebrated are Thomas Hardys Beeny Cliff and After reading in a letter proposals for building a cottage (Cottage) by John Clare. The positive impact of nature is ms electrical thesis also evident in the first stanza of Beeny Cliff as he describes the opal and the sapphire of that wandering western sea. The sea being described with the appearance of precious and beautiful gemstones shows he is impressed by it, as well the alliteration and personification of wandering western which rolls off the tongue paints an affectionate picture of the ocean. Accounting Topics For Research! There are many other positive natural references with John Clare describing his small enclosed garden, flowers that blossom sweet and the sweeping swallows; while Thomas Hardy mentions the clear- sunned March day and how the sun bursts out ms electrical again. Herbert Donne compared- an inadequate relationship to God. Herbert's poetry, is rather straightforward and plain and doesn't contain much complexity, save structurally, and it may be because they are devotional poems to God, and he thus keeps it simple so as to humble himself. The piety of his poetry is media minimal effects thesis really understandable, given that he was in ms electrical engg thesis fact a minister until his death in 1633, even choosing to become a rural vicar in favour of his position as Member of Parliament.

Suffering from tuberculosis in his later years, it is clear that he became more aware of thesis statement, his mortality and consequently more devout, which is evident in Virtue. Ms Electrical Engg Thesis! Compare how each poet writes about nature in Spring by Hopkins and How the old Mountains drip with Sunset by Dickinson. Even though both poems have different rhyme schemes they both suggest that nature is a beautiful and thesis wonderful thing. In How the old Mountains drip with Sunset and Spring Dickinson and ms electrical engg Hopkins both use linear letters to evoke the significance and individuality of nature. Dickinson uses supernatural imagery, By the Wizard Sun. Whereas Hopkins uses religious imagery, Christ, lord. Even though both poets use different imagery techniques they both convey the same outcome; that nature is amazing and something simple did not create it but a superhuman being did as nothing mortal could create something as beautiful.

Hopkins uses a simile and alliteration to writer convey how beautiful nature is. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud I will in ms electrical thesis this essay present a short introduction of the romantic hero, the poet, and the significance of the depiction of nature.I will also discuss William Wordsworths ability to media minimal convey the thesis, beauty of the daffodils. The romantic hero animates feelings and is able to create and use his imagination far better than ordinary people. The poet is often the protagonist in his own works and tips only the romantic poets have the ability to convey what they see. Nature is morally uplifting and according to William Wordsworth, nature is a better teacher than books. People take the ms electrical, beauty of nature for granted and cannot see the beauty in the same way as the romantic poets can see it. Next I will characterise the poet and elaborate on his experience of the thesis, daffodils.

In the opening line the poet says he wandered lonely as a cloud (Stanza 1, l 1). Discuss how Carol Ann Duffy and Sheenagh Pugh explore the concept of journey in their poetry. 'River' (At the turn of the river the language changes), 'The Way My Mother Speaks' (The train this slow evening / goes down England), and 'In Your Mind' (The other country). Moreover, enjambment is utilised throughout the poem; for example, Do I only / think / I lost a river, culture, speech in order to visually represent flow, reflecting the physical sense of movement in a journey. Compare the ways in which Duffy and Pugh write about violence. In your response, you must include detailed reference to at least two of Duffys poems. The aforementioned 'God complex' is engg augmented later in assignment writer the stanza by the verb phrase, I am going to play God which directly references the omnipotent supernatural deity as though the narrator has the power to wreak endless havoc, and thus use any conceivable level of violence, as she wishes. This is ms electrical thesis furthered by for research, the use of Biblical language, such as, I see that it is engg good. Consequently, the reader realises that the narrator's violence stems from her deluded state of mind; a potential interpretation of this is minimal thesis that Duffy's dissatisfaction with the Thatcher-run government of the 1980's inspired her to. Compare the way Larkin and Plath present human relationships in their poems.

This represents that they have history together and the fact that they can't talk to each other shows they are not as close as they once were. The use of the word 'emblem' symbolises the relationship between two people which is engg thesis shown by the act of lying in bed together. It may also refer to what is supposed to be ideal, which is being together, however this is dr king overshadowed by thesis, the ordinary and mundane life that they lead, therefore 'emblem' is ironic as Larkin is actually describing the opposite of this idea. Media! affair she had soon after her and Ted Hughes split ' - The child's cry melts in the wall not only suggests that when with her alleged lesbian partner she's free for the burden of ms electrical, motherhood and statement can just focus on their passion but also that when being in a homosexual relationship the possibilities of conceiving a child are none an engg thesis therefore there is no-one else to detract from the bond and overwhelming desire that the 2 have for each other. By comparing 'School for Scandal' and 'Rape of the Lock' explore the difference between wit and malice. The use of heroic couplets satirizes the vanity of society that has turned grand creatures into plagiarized, frivolous items. It is a clear use of thesis, bathos where the grand is brought down to an anti climax. This is online help with thesis statement compounded in the list of items upon her toilet 'Puffs, powders, patches, Bibles, billet-doux'.

Pope emerges the highly important item of the bible amongst the less auspicious puffs, powders, patches to comment on society's (and women in thesis particular's) lack of priorities or moral standards. The use of assignment service, alliteration furthers this satire by placing more emphasis on the 'B' in engg bibles which breaks the pattern. Based on his appearance he is topics for research not your typical hero, especially when he was tall and thin with a gipsy coat of thesis, red and yellow. However, the Pied Piper did turn out to be a hero and was also a man of action. He said he would get rid of the rats and he went straight to them and killed them, straight to the point. He did not mess up at paper, all and let a few rats get away, there was only engg thesis one rat who survived, with that one going off to tell other rats what had happened. Examine the use of the dramatic monologue in the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy. Midas tells the untold story of the well-known Greek myth King Midas, who is miraculously, granted the minimal effects, wish of turning everything he touches into gold. As with all the poems in The World's Wife, the title is a clear giveaway of ms electrical thesis, what the poem is about to entail, and this is no different. Mrs. Midas, the wife of King Midas is the persona of this particular monologue and here she voices her thoughts on planning tips her husband's newfound ability.

The kitchen filled with the smell of itself. How could Mrs Faust represent how moral values are changing in thesis modern society? However, as the poem progresses, the reader learns that the tips, couple wanted wealth and the use of we by Duffy turns into the use of I and he showing that as they got richer and their lifestyle became more and more wealthier, Mrs Faust felt her marriage begin to decay and feels the gap between them widen. This shows that in engg thesis the beginning she was happy with her marriage but when they both started wanting material possessions and Faust began chasing the dream, even though they had everything that a person could wish for, they stopped being happy, prompting the. Consider the writers thoughts and feelings about identity and the ways in which she expresses them, now compare this to those in A Streetcar Named Desire. A. Because it is two cities divided by accounting, a river. Engg Thesis! It almost sounds like a joke that a child would tell to its friend but Carter used the question and answer format because she wants the reader to enigmatically question the narrator. Online With! The answer gives the reader a feeling of division and tells them that Dora is a person who feels segregated living in a lower class area. Similarly, in engg 'A Streetcar Named Desire', Williams presents the character of Blanche as a woman who subverted her gender stereotype and is now rejected and looked down upon by society. Writer Service! Analyse the ways in which Tony Harrison presents the theme of family relationships in Long Distance one and two. This provides a contrast between the two poems and ms electrical engg thesis how they differ in writer service the representation of the family relationships.

As we read on, it seems that the ms electrical engg, first poem is a concise conversation of a father and his son, speaking of the the titans, grievance which the father has on ms electrical engg account of his wife dying. For the son, this does not seem to be as big of a problem to him, which could therefore portray the emotional distance between the narrator and minimal effects thesis his family. This is also suggested through the engg, possibility of the son, also living a distance away from his father. Good conclusions usually refer back to the question or title and address it directly - for example by using key words from the title. How well do you think these conclusions address the title or question? Answering these questions should help you find out.

Do they use key words from the title or question? Do they answer the question directly? Can you work out the topics paper, question or title just by reading the conclusion? In conclusion, these two poems use time and its effects in very much the same way; they both talk about time#039;s inevitability and its effects on beauty and life but they present very different solutions to this problem. It is not a coincidence that both poems have time as a theme because they were written during the 17th century, a time when people were very aware of the increasing proximity of engg thesis, death and the rapid passing of time.

In conclusion, I would say that I prefer Philip Larkin#039;s poem MCMXIV to Ted Hughes#039;s Six Young Men. Ted Hughes#039; poem felt very repetitive sometimes. I thought he was saying the same thing over and over again at the end of every stanza without making his message deeper or more interesting. The violence is also too graphic and doesn#039;t really move me. Larkin#039;s view of the minimal effects, war is more subtle but he still gives us an ms electrical engg insight to the war and his version of life is more realistic.

Leaving the gardens tidy is a very sad little personal detail because it seems so pointless and innocent and I think it rings more true than Hughes#039;s general descriptions of corpses and grenades. In conclusion both Wilmot and remember the titans thesis Armitage in the poems discussed employ several formal features. These include repetition, sound patterning, different rhyme forms, stress on certain syllables to create particular metres and alliteration. Formal features are devised to provide meaning, acoustic effects and aesthetic effects to the poems. Ms Electrical Engg Thesis! Platonism in the Philosophy of Mathematics. Platonism about mathematics (or mathematical platonism ) is the metaphysical view that there are abstract mathematical objects whose existence is independent of us and our language, thought, and practices. Just as electrons and planets exist independently of us, so do numbers and sets. And just as statements about electrons and engg, planets are made true or false by the objects with which they are concerned and these objects' perfectly objective properties, so are statements about numbers and sets. Mathematical truths are therefore discovered, not invented. The most important argument for the existence of abstract mathematical objects derives from Gottlob Frege and goes as follows (Frege 1953). The language of online help with thesis statement mathematics purports to refer to and quantify over ms electrical thesis, abstract mathematical objects.

And a great number of mathematical theorems are true. But a sentence cannot be true unless its sub-expressions succeed in doing what they purport to do. So there exist abstract mathematical objects that these expressions refer to and quantify over. Frege's argument notwithstanding, philosophers have developed a variety of objections to tips mathematical platonism. Thus, abstract mathematical objects are claimed to thesis be epistemologically inaccessible and metaphysically problematic. Mathematical platonism has been among the most hotly debated topics in the philosophy of topics mathematics over thesis, the past few decades. Mathematical platonism can be defined as the conjunction of the following three theses: There are mathematical objects.

Mathematical objects are abstract. Mathematical objects are independent of intelligent agents and their language, thought, and practices. Some representative definitions of ‘mathematical platonism’ are listed in dr king the supplement. and document that the above definition is fairly standard. Platonism in ms electrical thesis general (as opposed to dr king platonism about mathematics specifically) is any view that arises from the above three claims by replacing the adjective ‘mathematical’ by any other adjective. The first two claims are tolerably clear for present purposes. Existence can be formalized as ‘∃ x Mx ’, where ‘ Mx ’ abbreviates the predicate ‘ x is a mathematical object’ which is true of all and only the objects studied by pure mathematics, such as numbers, sets, and functions. Abstractness says that every mathematical object is abstract, where an object is said to be abstract just in engg thesis case it is non-spatiotemporal and with statement, (therefore) causally inefficacious. (For further discussion, see the entry on abstract objects.) Independence is less clear than the other two claims. Ms Electrical Thesis? What does it mean to ascribe this sort of independence to an object?

The most obvious gloss is probably the counterfactual conditional that, had there not been any intelligent agents, or had their language, thought, or practices been different, there would still have been mathematical objects. It is doubtful that this gloss will do the work that Independence is supposed to service do (see Section 5.3); for now, Independence will be left somewhat schematic. Platonism must be distinguished from the thesis, view of the historical Plato. Few parties to the contemporary debate about platonism make strong exegetical claims about Plato's view, much less defend it. Although the the titans, view which we are calling ‘platonism’ is inspired by Plato's famous theory of abstract and eternal Forms (see the engg, entry on with thesis statement, Plato's metaphysics and epistemology), platonism is now defined and debated independently of its original historical inspiration. Not only is the platonism under discussion not Plato's, platonism as characterized above is a purely metaphysical view: it should be distinguished from other views that have substantive epistemological content. Engg? Many older characterizations of platonism add strong epistemological claims to the effect that we have some immediate grasp of, or insight into, the realm of abstract objects. (See e.g., Rees 1967.) But it is topics for research paper, useful (and nowadays fairly standard) to reserve the term ‘platonism’ for the purely metaphysical view described above. Many philosophers who defend platonism in engg this purely metaphysical sense would reject the additional epistemological claims. Planning? Examples include Quine and other philosophers attracted to the so-called indispensability argument , which seeks to give a broadly empirical defense of ms electrical mathematical platonism. (See the service, entry on indispensability arguments in the philosophy of mathematics.)

Finally, the above definition of ‘mathematical platonism’ excludes the ms electrical engg, claim that all truths of pure mathematics are necessary, although this claim has traditionally been made by most platonists. Again, this exclusion is justified by the fact that some philosophers who are generally regarded as platonists (for instance, Quine and some adherents of the aforementioned indispensability argument) reject this additional modal claim . 1.2 The philosophical significance of remember statement mathematical platonism. Mathematical platonism has considerable philosophical significance. If the view is true, it will put great pressure on the physicalist idea that reality is exhausted by the physical. For platonism entails that reality extends far beyond the physical world and includes objects which aren't part of the causal and spatiotemporal order studied by the physical sciences. 1 Mathematical platonism, if true, will also put great pressure on many naturalistic theories of knowledge. For there is little doubt that we possess mathematical knowledge. The truth of mathematical platonism would therefore establish that we have knowledge of ms electrical abstract (and thus causally inefficacious) objects. This would be an important discovery, which many naturalistic theories of knowledge would struggle to accommodate.

Although these philosophical consequences are not unique to mathematical platonism, this particular form of platonism is unusually well suited to support such consequences. Business Planning? For mathematics is a remarkably successful discipline, both in its own right and as a tool for other sciences. 2 Few contemporary analytic philosophers are willing to contradict any of the core claims of a discipline whose scientific credentials are as strong as those of mathematics (Lewis 1991, pp. Ms Electrical Thesis? 579). So if philosophical analysis revealed mathematics to business tips have some strange and surprising consequences, it would be unattractive simply to reject mathematics. 3 A form of platonism based on a discipline whose scientific credentials are less impressive than those of mathematics would not be in this fortunate situation. For instance, if theology turns out to ms electrical engg have some strange and planning tips, surprising philosophical consequences, many philosophers would not hesitate to reject the relevant parts of thesis theology. In contemporary philosophy nominalism is typically defined as the view that there are no abstract objects. (In more traditional philosophical usage the word ‘nominalism’ refers instead to the view that there are no universals. See Burgess Rosen 1997, pp. For Research? 1325 and engg thesis, the entry on abstract objects.) Let anti-nominalism be the negation of nominalism, that is, the claim that there exist abstract objects. Anti-nominalism about business planning mathematics is thus just the conjunction of Existence and ms electrical engg, Abstractness . Because anti-nominalism leaves out Independence , it is logically weaker than mathematical platonism.

The philosophical consequences of anti-nominalism are not as strong as those of platonism. Many physicalists would accept non-physical objects provided that these are dependent on tips, or reducible to engg thesis physical objects. They may for help thesis statement instance accept objects such as corporations, laws, and poems, provided that these are suitably dependent or reducible to physical objects. Moreover, there appears to be no mystery about epistemic access to non-physical objects that we have somehow made or ‘constituted’. If corporations, laws, and poems are made or ‘constituted’ by us, presumably we gain knowledge of them in engg thesis the process of making or ‘constituting’ them. Some views in the philosophy of mathematics are anti-nominalist without being platonist. One example are traditional intuitionist views, which affirm the existence of mathematical objects but maintain that these objects depend on or are constituted by mathematicians and their activities. 4 Some further examples of media minimal thesis views that are anti-nominalist without being platonist will be discussed in Section 5.2. Truth-value realism is the view that every well-formed mathematical statement has a unique and objective truth-value that is ms electrical thesis, independent of whether it can be known by us and whether it follows logically from our current mathematical theories. The view also holds that most mathematical statements that are deemed to be true are in fact true.

5 Thus truth-value realism is clearly a metaphysical view. Planning Tips? But unlike platonism it is ms electrical engg, not an ontological view. For although truth-value realism claims that mathematical statements have unique and objective truth-values, it is not committed to business planning tips the distinctively platonist idea that these truth-values flow from an ontology of mathematical objects. Mathematical platonism clearly motivates truth-value realism by providing an account of how mathematical statements get their truth-values. Thesis? But the former view does not entail the latter unless further premises are added. For even if there are mathematical objects, referential and online thesis, quantificational indeterminacy may deprive mathematical statements of a unique and objective truth-value. Conversely, truth-value realism does not by itself entail Existence and thus implies neither anti-nominalism nor platonism. For there are various accounts of how mathematical statements can come to possess unique and objective truth-values which do not posit a realm of mathematical objects. 6. In fact, many nominalists endorse truth-value realism, at least about more basic branches of mathematics, such as arithmetic. Nominalists of engg thesis this type are committed to the slightly odd-sounding view that, although the ordinary mathematical statement.

(1) There are primes numbers between 10 and 20. is true, there are in fact no mathematical objects and thus in particular no numbers. But there is no contradiction here. Minimal Thesis? We must distinguish between the language L M in which mathematicians make their claims and the language L P in which nominalists and other philosophers make theirs. The statement (1) is made in L M . But the nominalist's assertion that (1) is true but that there are no abstract objects is ms electrical thesis, made in L P . The nominalist's assertion is thus perfectly coherent provided that (1) is translated non-homophonically from remember the titans thesis L M into L P . And indeed, when the nominalist claims that the truth-values of thesis sentences of L M are fixed in a way which doesn't appeal to mathematical objects, it is precisely this sort of non-homophonic translation she has in mind. The view mentioned in assignment service the previous note provides an example. This shows that for the claim Existence to have its intended effect, it must be expressed in the language L P used by us philosophers. If the claim was expressed in the language L M used by mathematicians, then nominalists could accept the claim while still denying that there are mathematical objects, contrary to the purpose of the claim. A small but important tradition of philosophers urge that the debate about engg thesis platonism should be replaced by, or at least transformed into, a debate about truth-value realism. Remember Thesis Statement? One reason offered in support of this view is that the former debate is hopelessly unclear, while the latter is more tractable (Dummett 1978a, pp. 228232 and Dummett 1991b, pp.

1015). Another reason offered is engg, that the debate about truth-value realism is of greater importance to both philosophy and mathematics than the one about platonism. Writer Service? 7. 1.5 The mathematical significance of ms electrical engg thesis platonism. Working realism is the methodological view that mathematics should be practiced as if platonism was true (Bernays 1935, Shapiro 1997, pp. 2127 and 3844). This requires some explanation. Plagiarized? In debates about the foundations of mathematics platonism has often been used to defend certain mathematical methods, such as the following:

Classical first-order (or stronger) languages whose singular terms and quantifiers appear to be referring to and ranging over mathematical objects. (This contrasts with the languages that dominated earlier in the history of mathematics, which relied more heavily on ms electrical engg thesis, constructive and modal vocabulary.) Classical rather than intuitionistic logic. Non-constructive methods (such as non-constructive existence proofs) and non-constructive axioms (such as the Axiom of Choice). Impredicative definitions (that is, definitions that quantify over a totality to which the object being defined would belong). ‘Hilbertian optimism’, that is, the belief that every mathematical problem is in principle solvable. 8. According to working realism, these and other classical methods are acceptable and available in all mathematical reasoning. But working realism does not take a stand on whether these methods require any philosophical defense, and if so, whether this defense must be based on platonism. Business? In short, where platonism is an explicitly philosophical view, working realism is first and foremost a view within mathematics itself about the correct methodology of this discipline.

Platonism and working realism are therefore distinct views. However, there may of course be logical relations between the thesis, two views. Given the plagiarized, origin of working realism, it is not surprising that the view receives strong support from mathematical platonism. Engg? Assume that mathematical platonism is true. Then clearly the language of accounting for research paper mathematics ought to be as described in (i). Secondly, provided it is engg thesis, legitimate to reason classically about any independently existing part of reality, (ii) would also follow. Thirdly, since platonism ensures that mathematics is the titans statement, discovered rather than invented, there would be no need for mathematicians to restrict themselves to constructive methods and axioms, which establishes (iii).

Fourth, there is a powerful and influential argument due to ms electrical Gödel (1944) that impredicative definitions are legitimate whenever the objects being defined exist independently of our definitions. (For instance, ‘the tallest boy in the class’ appears unproblematic despite being impredicative.) If this is correct, then (iv) would follow. Finally, if mathematics is about some independently existing reality, then every mathematical problem has a unique and determinate answer, which provides at least some motivation for Hilbertian optimism. (See, however, the online with thesis, discussion of plenitudinous platonism in Section 5.1.) The truth of mathematical platonism would therefore have important consequences within mathematics itself. It would justify the classical methods associated with working realism and thesis, encourage the search for new axioms to settle questions (such as the Continuum Hypothesis) which are left open by our current mathematical theories. However, working realism does not in any obvious way imply platonism. Although working realism says that we are justified in using the plagiarized thesis, platonistic language of contemporary mathematics, this falls short of platonism in at ms electrical engg, least two ways.

As the above discussion of truth-value realism showed, the tips, platonistic language of mathematics can be analysed in such a way as to ms electrical thesis avoid reference to writer and quantification over mathematical objects. Moreover, even if a face-value analysis of the language of mathematics could be justified, what would follow is anti-nominalism but not yet platonism. An additional argument would be needed for the third component of platonism, namely, Independence . The prospects for such an argument are discussed in Section 3.2. 2. The Fregean Argument for Existence. We now describe a template of an argument for the existence of mathematical objects. Thesis? Since the first philosopher who developed an argument of business tips this general form was Frege, it will be referred to as the Fregean argument . Thesis? But the template is with thesis statement, general and abstracts away from most specific aspects of ms electrical thesis Frege's own defense of the existence of for research paper mathematical objects, such as his view that arithmetic is reducible to logic. Fregean logicism is just one way in which this template can be developed; some other ways will be mentioned below. The Fregean argument is based on two premises, the first of which concerns the semantics of the language of mathematics: The singular terms of the language of mathematics purport to refer to mathematical objects, and its first-order quantifiers purport to range over such objects. The word ‘purport’ needs to be explained. When a sentence S purports to refer or quantify in a certain way, this means that for engg S to be true, S must succeed in referring or quantifying in statement this way.

The second premise does not require much explanation: Most sentences accepted as mathematical theorems are true (regardless of their syntactic and semantic structure). Consider sentences which are accepted as mathematical theorems and which contain one or more mathematical singular terms. Ms Electrical Engg? By Truth , most of these sentences are true. 9 Let S be one such sentence. Service? By Classical Semantics , the truth of ms electrical S requires that its singular terms succeed in referring to mathematical objects. Hence there must be mathematical objects, as asserted by Existence . Media Minimal Effects? 10. Classical Semantics claims that the thesis, language of mathematics functions semantically much like language in general functions (or at least has traditionally been assumed to function): the semantic functions of singular terms and quantifiers are, respectively, to refer to objects and to range over objects.

This is a broadly empirical claim about the workings of a semi-formal language used by the community of media minimal effects thesis professional mathematicians. (In the widely adopted terminology of ms electrical thesis Burgess Rosen 1997, pp. Planning? 67, Classical Semantics is a hermeneutic claim; that is, it is a descriptive claim about how a certain language is actually used, not a normative claim about how this language ought to be used.) Note also that Classical Semantics is compatible with most traditional views on semantics; in particular, it is compatible with all the thesis, standard views on the meanings of sentences, namely that they are truth-values, propositions, or sets of possible worlds. Classical Semantics enjoys strong prima facie plausibility. Writer Service? For the ms electrical engg thesis, language of mathematics strongly appears to have the same semantic structure as ordinary non-mathematical language. Remember The Titans Thesis? As Burgess (1999) observes, the engg, following two sentences appear to have the same simple semantic structure of a predicate being ascribed to a subject (p. 288): (4) Evelyn is prim. (5) Eleven is prime. This appearance is also borne out by the standard semantic analyses proposed by linguists and remember thesis, semanticists. Classical Semantics has nevertheless been challenged, for ms electrical engg thesis instance by nominalists such as Hellman (1989) and by Hofweber (2005). (See also Moltmann (2013) for some challenges concerned with arithmetical vocabulary in service natural language.) This is not the place for ms electrical engg thesis an extended discussion of such challenges.

Let me just note that a lot of work is the titans thesis statement, needed to ms electrical engg substantiate this sort of challenge. The challenger will have to argue that the apparent semantic similarities between mathematical and non-mathematical language are deceptive. And these arguments will have to be of the sort that linguists and semanticistswith no vested interest in the philosophy of mathematicscould come to planning recognize as significant. 11. Truth can be defended in thesis a variety of different ways. Common to all defenses is that they first identify some standard by accounting for research, which the truth-values of mathematical statements can be assessed and then argue that mathematical theorems meet this standard.

One option is to appeal to a standard that is more fundamental than that of mathematics itself. Logicism provides an example. Ms Electrical Thesis? Frege and other logicists first claim that any theorem of pure logic is true. Then they attempt to show that the theorems of certain branches of mathematics can be proved from online help pure logic and definitions alone. Another option is to appeal to the standards of empirical science. The Quine-Putnam indispensability argument provides an example.

First it is argued that any indispensable part of empirical science is likely to be true and therefore something we are justified in believing. Then it is argued that large amounts of mathematics are indispensable to empirical science. If both claims are correct, it follows that Truth is likely to be true and that belief in Truth therefore is ms electrical thesis, justified. A third option is to accounting topics paper appeal to the standards of mathematics itself. Engg? Why should one have to thesis statement appeal to ms electrical engg thesis non-mathematical standards, such as those of remember thesis statement logic or empirical science, in order to defend the truth of mathematical theorems? When we defend the truth of the ms electrical, claims of logic and with, physics, we do not need to appeal to standards outside of engg thesis respectively logic and dr king plagiarized, physics. Rather we assume that logic and physics provide their own sui generis standards of justification. Why should mathematics be any different? This third strategy has received a lot of attention in recent years, often under the heading of ‘naturalism’ or ‘mathematical naturalism’. (See Burgess Rosen 1997, Maddy 1997, and, for ms electrical thesis critical discussion, see the assignment, entry on ms electrical engg thesis, naturalism in the philosophy of mathematics.) Here is an example of how a naturalistic strategy can be developed.

Call the attitude that mathematicians take to the theorems of mathematics ‘acceptance’. Then the following claims seem plausible: (6) Mathematicians are justified in accepting the theorems of business planning mathematics. (7) Accepting a mathematical statement S involves taking S to be true. (8) When a mathematician accepts a mathematical statement S , the content of this attitude is in general the literal meaning of S . From these three claims it follows that mathematical experts are justified in taking the theorems of engg mathematics to be literal truths. By extension the rest of us too are justified in effects believing Truth . Note that the experts with whom (6) is concerned need not themselves believe (7) and (8), let alone be justified in any such belief. Ms Electrical Thesis? What matters is that the online help with thesis statement, three claims are true. The task of establishing the truth of (7) and (8) may fall to ms electrical engg linguists, psychologists, sociologists, or philosophers, but certainly not to mathematicians themselves.

2.4 The notion of business planning ontological commitment. Versions of the Fregean argument are sometimes stated in terms of the notion of ontological commitment. Assume we operate with the standard Quinean criterion of ontological commitment: A first-order sentence (or collection of such sentences) is engg, ontologically committed to such objects as must be assumed to be in the range of the variables for the sentence (or collection of sentences) to tips be true. Then it follows from Classical Semantics that many sentences of mathematics are ontologically committed to mathematical objects. To see this, consider a typical mathematical theorem S , which involves some normal extensional occurrence of either singular terms or first-order quantifiers. By Classical Semantics , these expressions purport to refer to or range over mathematical objects. For S to be true, these expressions must succeed in doing what they purport to do.

Consequently, for S to be true, there must be mathematical objects in the range of the variables. By Quine's Criterion this means that S is ontologically committed to mathematical objects. Quine and many others take Quine's Criterion to be little more than a definition of the term ‘ontological commitment’ (Quine 1969 and Burgess 2004). But the criterion has nevertheless been challenged. Some philosophers deny that singular terms and first-order quantifiers automatically give rise to ontological commitments. Perhaps what is “required of the world” for the sentence to be true involves the existence of some but not all of the objects in the range of the quantifiers (Rayo 2008). Or perhaps we should sever the link between the first-order existential quantifier and the notion of ontological commitment (Azzouni 2004 and ms electrical, Hofweber 2000).

One response to these challenges is to observe that the Fregean argument was developed above without any use of the term ‘ontological commitment’. Any challenge to the definition of ‘ontological commitment’ provided by the titans, Quine's Criterion therefore appears irrelevant to the version of the engg, Fregean argument developed above. However, this response is unlikely to satisfy the challengers, who will respond that the conclusion of the argument developed above is too weak to have its intended effect. Recall that the conclusion, Existence , is formalized in our philosophical meta-language L P as ‘∃ x Mx ’. So this formalization will fail to have its intended effect unless this meta-language sentence is of the sort that incurs ontological commitment. But that is online help with thesis, precisely what the challengers dispute. This controversy cannot be pursued further here. For now, we simply observe that the ms electrical thesis, challengers need to minimal provide an account of thesis why their non-standard notion of ontological commitment is better and theoretically more interesting than the standard Quinean notion. 3. From Existence to Mathematical Platonism.

Recall that mathematical platonism is the result of adding to Existence the assignment service, two further claims Abstractness and Independence . By the standards of philosophy, Abstractness has remained relatively uncontroversial. Among the few philosophers to have challenged it are Maddy (1990) (concerning impure sets) and Bigelow (1988) (concerning sets and various kinds of numbers). This relative lack of ms electrical controversy means that few explicit defenses of Abstractness have been developed. But it is not hard to business planning see how such a defense might go. Here is one idea. It is thesis, a plausible prima facie constraint on any philosophical interpretation of mathematical practice that it should avoid ascribing to mathematics any features which would render actual mathematical practice misguided or inadequate. This constraint makes it hard to deny that the objects of pure mathematics are abstract.

For if these objects had spatiotemporal locations, then actual mathematical practice would be misguided and inadequate, since pure mathematicians ought then to take an interest in the locations of their objects, just as physicists take an interest in the locations of theirs. The fact that pure mathematicians take no interest in this question suggests that their objects are abstract. Independence says that mathematical objects, if there are any, are independent of intelligent agents and their language, thought, and practices. This claim has received relatively little explicit attention in recent decades. Writer Service? (Among the exceptions are philosophers of intuitionist and constructivist leanings, such as Dummett. See also Cole 2009.) The claim appears to have been tacitly accepted by most analytic philosophers, not always because they are moved by any arguments in its favor, but often only because they don't understand what it would be for the claim to fail. Ordinary physical objects provide a good model for what it is for an object to be independent of us and our activities. But it remains unclear what it would be for an object not to be thus independent. However, a failure to engg thesis see any clear alternatives to a view is not a defense of the view. Can one do better?

One strategy is to search for a route from working realism to Independence . Assume that the methodology of classical mathematics is the titans thesis statement, justified. Could it be that the best explanation of ms electrical this fact is remember statement, that Independence is ms electrical engg thesis, true? One such argument is suggested by Gödel, who claims that the legitimacy of impredicative definitions is best explained by the truth of some form of platonism, including something like our claim Independence (Gödel 1944, pp. Accounting Topics Paper? 455457; see also Bernays 1935 for a related but weaker claim). However, although it is widely agreed that Independence would support the legitimacy of impredicative definitions, it remains an ms electrical engg thesis, open question whether the converse implication is defensible. Another option is to proceed from the methodology of contemporary set theory to Independence (Gödel 1964). Statement? Much of the engg, search for new axioms in online thesis set theory is ms electrical thesis, today based on so-called “extrinsic justifications”, where candidate axioms are assessed not just for dr king their intrinsic plausibility but also for their capacity to explain and thesis, systematize more basic mathematical facts.

Perhaps this methodology can somehow be used to motivate Independence . However, it remains an open question whether this suggestion can be developed into dr king plagiarized a convincing argument. (See Maddy 1988 for a discussion of extrinsic justifications in set theory. See also Parsons 1995 for a discussion of Gödel's platonism.) 4. Ms Electrical Thesis? Objections to Mathematical Platonism. A variety of objections to dr king plagiarized mathematical platonism have been developed. Here are the most important ones.

The most influential objection is probably the one inspired by Benacerraf (1973). What follows is an improved version of Benacerraf's objection due to Field (1989). 12 This version relies on the following three premises. If these three premises are correct, it will follow that mathematical platonism undercuts our justification for believing in mathematics. But are the premises correct? The first two premises are relatively uncontroversial. Most platonists are already committed to Premise 1. And Premise 2 seems fairly secure. Engg Thesis? If the reliability of some belief formation procedure could not even in principle be explained, then the procedure would seem to tips work purely by ms electrical thesis, chance, thus undercutting any justification we have for the beliefs produced in this way. Premise 3 is more controversial.

Field defends this premise by observing that “the truth-values of our mathematical assertions depend on facts involving platonic entities that reside in a realm outside of space-time” (Field 1989, p. 68) and thus are causally isolated from us even in principle. However, this defense assumes that any adequate explanation of the reliability in question must involve some causal correlation. This has been challenged by a variety of philosophers who have proposed more minimal explanations of the reliability claim. (See Burgess Rosen 1997, pp. 4149 and Lewis 1991, pp. 111112. See Linnebo 2006 for a critique.) 13. Another famous article by Benacerraf develops a metaphysical objection to mathematical platonism (Benacerraf 1965, Kitcher 1978). Although Benacerraf focuses on arithmetic, the objection naturally generalizes to most pure mathematical objects. Benacerraf opens by defending what is assignment writer service, now known as a structuralist view of the ms electrical engg, natural numbers, according to which the natural numbers have no properties other than those they have in virtue of being positions in an ω-sequence. For instance, there is nothing more to online with statement being the number 3 than having certain intrastructurally defined relational properties, such as succeeding 2, being half of 6, and being prime.

No matter how hard we study arithmetic and set theory, we will never know whether 3 is identical with the fourth von Neumann ordinal, or with the corresponding Zermelo ordinal, or perhaps, as Frege suggested, with the ms electrical engg thesis, class of all three-membered classes (in some system that allows such classes to exist). Benacerraf now draws the following conclusion: Therefore, numbers are not objects at all, because in giving the media effects thesis, properties of numbers you merely characterize an abstract structureand the distinction lies in the fact that the “elements” of the structure have no properties other than those relating them to other “elements” of the same structure. Thesis? (Benacerraf 1965, p. Effects? 291) In other words, Benacerraf claims that there can be no objects which have nothing but structural properties. All objects must have some non-structural properties as well. (See Benacerraf 1996 for some later reflections on this argument.) Both of the steps of Benacerraf's argument are controversial. The first stepthat natural numbers have only structural propertieshas recently been defended by a variety of mathematical structuralists (Parsons 1990, Resnik 1997, and engg, Shapiro 1997). But this step is denied by logicists and remember thesis statement, neo-logicists, who claim that the natural numbers are intrinsically tied to the cardinalities of the collections that they number. And the second stepthat there can be no objects with only structural propertiesis explicitly rejected by all of the structuralists who defend the first step. (For some voices sympathetic to the second step, see Hellman 2001 and MacBride 2005. See also Linnebo 2008 for engg discussion.)

In addition to topics Benacerraf's, a variety of engg metaphysical objections to mathematical platonism have been developed. One of the online thesis statement, more famous examples is an argument of Nelson Goodman's against ms electrical engg, set theory. Goodman (1956) defends the Principle of Nominalism , which states that whenever two entities have the for research, same basic constituents, they are identical. This principle can be regarded as a strengthening of the familiar set theoretic axiom of thesis extensionality. The axiom of extensionality states that if two sets x and y have the same elementsthat is, if ∀ u ( u ∈ x ↔ u ∈ y )then they are identical. The Principle of help with statement Nominalism is obtained by replacing the ms electrical thesis, membership relation with its transitive closure. 14 The principle thus states that if x and minimal effects, y are borne ∈* by the same individualsthat is, if ∀ u ( u ∈* x ↔ u ∈* y )then x and y are identical. By endorsing this principle, Goodman disallows the formation of engg thesis sets and classes, allowing only the formation of with statement mereological sums and the application to the standard mereological operations (as described by his “calculus of ms electrical individuals”).

However, Goodman's defense of the Principle of Nominalism is now widely held to be unconvincing, as witnessed by the widespread acceptance by philosophers and mathematicians of set theory as a legitimate and valuable branch of mathematics. Anti-nominalism says there exist abstract mathematical objects, whereas platonism adds Independence , which says that mathematical objects are independent of intelligent agents and their language, thought, and practices. Alternatives are available; this final section surveys some lightweight forms of plagiarized platonism which belong somewhere in the territory between anti-nominalism and full-fledged platonism. One lightweight form of platonism (its name notwithstanding) is the “full-blooded platonism” of ms electrical thesis Balaguer 1998. This form of platonism is online help with thesis, characterized by a plenitude principle to the effect that any mathematical objects that could exist actually do exist. For instance, since the Continuum Hypothesis is independent of the standard axiomatization of ms electrical thesis set theory, there is a universe of sets in which the hypothesis is true and assignment service, another in which it is false. And neither universe is thesis, metaphysically privileged. By contrast, traditional platonism asserts that there is a unique universe of sets in which the Continuum Hypothesis is either determinately true or determinately false. 15. One alleged benefit of remember the titans this plenitudinous view is in the epistemology of mathematics. If every consistent mathematical theory is thesis, true of some universe of mathematical objects, then mathematical knowledge will, in some sense, be easy to obtain: provided that our mathematical theories are consistent, they are guaranteed to be true of business some universe of mathematical objects.

However, “full-blooded platonism” has received much criticism. Colyvan and ms electrical engg, Zalta 1999 criticize it for undermining the possibility of reference to mathematical objects, and Restall 2003, for lacking a precise and coherent formulation of the plenitude principle on which the view is based. Martin (2001) proposes that different universes of sets be amalgamated to yield a single maximal universe, which will be privileged by dr king plagiarized, fitting our conception of thesis set better than any other universe of sets. A different version of plenitudinous platonism is developed in topics Linsky Zalta 1995 and a series of further articles. (See, for instance, Linsky Zalta 2006 and other articles cited therein.) Traditional platonism goes wrong by “conceiv[ing] of abstract objects on the model of physical objects” (Linsky Zalta 1995, p. 533), including in engg particular the media effects, idea that such objects are “sparse” rather than plenitudinous. Linsky Zalta develop an alternative approach on the basis of the ms electrical thesis, second author's “object theory”. The main feature of object theory is a very general comprehension principle which asserts the existence of a plenitude of abstract objects: for any collection of properties, there is an abstract object which “encodes” precisely these properties. In object theory, moreover, two abstract objects are identical just in case they encode precisely the assignment writer, same properties. Object theory's comprehension principle and ms electrical engg, identity criterion are said to “provide the link between our cognitive faculty of understanding and abstract objects” ( ibid ., p. 547). (See Ebert Rossberg 2007 for business tips critical discussion.) Assume that anti-nominalism is true. For convenience, assume also Classical Semantics . These assumptions ensure that the singular terms and quantifiers of mathematical language refer to and range over abstract objects. Ms Electrical Engg Thesis? Given these assumptions, should one also be a mathematical platonist?

That is, do the objects that mathematical sentences refer to plagiarized and quantify over satisfy Independence or some similar condition? It will be useful to restate our assumptions in more neutral terms. We can do this by invoking the notion of engg thesis a semantic value , which plays an important role in semantics and help with, the philosophy of language. In these fields it is widely assumed that each expression makes some definite contribution to the truth-value of sentences in ms electrical which the expression occurs. This contribution is known as the semantic value of the expression. It is widely assumed that (at least in extensional contexts) the semantic value of a singular term is just its referent.

Our assumptions can now be stated neutrally as the tips, claim that mathematical singular terms have abstract semantic values and engg, that its quantifiers range over remember thesis statement, the kinds of item that serve as semantic values. Let's focus on the claim about singular terms. What is the philosophical significance of this claim? In particular, does it support some version of Independence ? The answer will depend on what is required for a mathematical singular term to have a semantic value. Some philosophers argue that not very much is required (Frege 1953, Dummett 1981, Dummett 1991a, Hale Wright 2000, and Wright 1983). It suffices for the term t to make some definite contribution to the truth-values of sentences in which it occurs. The whole purpose of the notion of a semantic value was to represent such contributions.

It therefore suffices for a singular term to ms electrical possess a semantic value that it makes some such suitable contribution. This may even open the way for a kind of reductionism (Dummett 1991a, Linnebo 2012). Business? Although it is perfectly true that the mathematical singular term t has an abstract object as its semantic value, this truth may obtain in virtue of more basic facts which do not mention or involve the relevant abstract object. Compare for instance the relation of ownership that obtains between a person and her bank account. Although it is perfectly true that the person owns the bank account, this truth may obtain in virtue of more basic sociological or psychological facts which do not mention or involve the bank account. If some lightweight account of semantic values is defensible, we can accept the assumptions of anti-nominalism and Classical Semantics without committing ourselves to any traditional or robust form of engg platonism. 5.3 What is mathematical platonism anyway? Do the lightweight forms of media effects platonism deserve to be called ‘platonist’?

Since the ms electrical engg thesis, views clearly qualify as anti-nominalist, the question is whether they are sufficiently true to assignment writer service the claim Independence . A natural gloss on Independence is the counterfactual conditional that, had there not been any intelligent agents, or had their language, thought, or practices been suitably different, there would still have been mathematical objects. If this is all that Independence amounts to, then the ms electrical thesis, lightweight forms of platonism are likely to satisfy the claim and thus qualify as genuinely platonist. But it is doubtful that this gloss is acceptable. For Independence is meant to substantiate an analogy between mathematical objects and dr king thesis, ordinary physical objects. Just as electrons and ms electrical engg, planets exist independently of us, so do numbers and sets. And just as statements about electrons and planets are made true or false by the objects with which they are concerned and these objects' perfectly objective properties, so are statements about numbers and sets. Since the lightweight forms of platonism explicitly distance themselves from this analogy, Independence should presumably be glossed in a way that makes it incompatible with the lightweight forms of platonism. The problem is the elusive nature of the analogy on topics for research, which Independence is based.

Until we get a better grip on this analogy, it will remain unclear exactly how platonism is supposed to go beyond anti-nominalism. Top 10 Things Job-Seekers Need to Know about Submitting and Posting Your Resume Online. by Katharine Hansen, Ph.D. In the early days of Internet job searching, e-resumes, or electronic resumes, were distinguished from traditional print resumes. Thesis. Today, since most resumes are transmitted electronically, the term “e-resume” is not used much anymore. Online resume submission has become so pervasive that “resume” is nearly synonymous with “electronic resume.” Job-seekers today submit their resumes via e-mail, post or submit them on Internet job boards, or publish them on their own Web page. To learn more about the many forms of resumes used online, see our accompanying article, Your E-resume’s File Format Aligns with its Delivery Method. In the meantime, stay right here to learn the business tips 10 things you truly must know about submitting and posting your resume online.

1. You absolutely MUST have a version of your resume that is optimized for online posting and submission. A job-seeker simply cannot succeed these days with just the traditional formatted resume intended to be printed out as a visually pleasing marketing piece. The formatted “print” resume is still important, but it can no longer be the only resume tool in your kit. More than 90 percent of employers place resumes directly into searchable databases and an equal percentage of employers prefer to receive resumes by e-mail. More than 80 percent of thesis, Fortune 500 companies post jobs on their own Web sites — and online help thesis statement expect job-seekers to respond electronically. Thus, you need at engg thesis, least one other version of your resume that can go directly into a keyword-searchable database with no obstacles. Formatting that needs to be removed before the resume can be placed in remember thesis statement, a database is an example of such an thesis obstacle.

Sending your resume in text-based format directly in media minimal effects, the body of an e-mail message removes all barriers to an employer’s placing your resume right into a searchable databases. Some employers still prefer the formatted document version of your resume attached to an e-mail message (so they have the option to print it out, for example), while others won’t open attachments because of concerns about viruses and incompatibilities among word-processing programs. The formatted “print” resume is still vital because the employer may wish to visually review your resume, especially once the database search has narrowed down the candidates, and the formatted, print version will be more reader-friendly than the text-based version. You’ll also want to ms electrical thesis have a print version of your resume on media minimal effects thesis hand for networking, to take to interviews and career fairs and for the rare occasions when employers request resumes in thesis, old-school ways — by mail or fax. At the plagiarized thesis bare minimum, you need a formatted, print version of your resume and a text-based (ASCII) e-resume.

To cover every contingency, you might also want to have a Portable Document Format (PDF) version, and a Web-based (HTML) version. The nuances of these versions are explained in our article, Your E-resume’s File Format Aligns with its Delivery Method. 2. Your resume must be loaded with keywords. Much of engg thesis, job-hunting today revolves around the mysterious world of keywords. Employers’ dependence on keywords to find the job candidates they want to interview has come about in recent years because of technology.

Inundated by resumes from topics, job-seekers, employers have increasingly relied on placing resumes in engg thesis, keyword-searchable databases, and using software to search those databases for dr king specific keywords that relate to ms electrical thesis job vacancies. Most Fortune 1000 companies, in fact, and plagiarized thesis many smaller companies now use these technologies. In addition, most employers search the databases of thesis, third-party job-posting and topics resume-posting boards on the Internet. The bottom line is that if you apply for a job with a company that searches databases for keywords, and your resume doesn’t have the thesis keywords the company seeks for plagiarized thesis the person who fills that job, you are pretty much out of luck. Read more about the importance of keywords in our article Tapping the Power of Keywords to ms electrical thesis Enhance Your Resume’s Effectiveness and how you can identify the best keywords in Resources for minimal thesis Identifying Keywords and Researching Keywords in Employment Ads. Engg. Consider using our Resume Keywords Worksheet. 3. Your resume must be accomplishments-driven. Accomplishments are the points that really help sell you to an employer — much more so than everyday job duties. Writer Service. In fact, there’s a direct relationship between keywords and accomplishments in that keywords can be tied to accomplishments rather than job duties, so a good way to make the leap from keyword to a nice, contextual bullet point is to take each keyword you’ve identified as critical to the job and list an accomplishment that tells how you’ve used the thesis skill represented by that keyword.

For more about maximizing your accomplishments in statement, an e-resume, see our article, For Job-Hunting Success: Track and Leverage Your Accomplishments and consider using our Accomplishments Worksheet. 4. Technically speaking, a resume for engg online posting and submission is dr king plagiarized not too difficult to create. It’s surprisingly easy to create an e-resume once you get the hang of it. There’s more than one way to create a text-based e-resume, but the most common method involves saving your word-processed (usually Word) resume in text (.txt) format, re-opening it in a text editor program, such as Wordpad, Notepad, or Text Wrangler, TextEdit for Mac OS, and then making a few adjustments in it. One good resource that can walk you through this process include this part of How to ms electrical engg thesis Upload or Email a Resume from Susan Ireland. Even a Web-based HTML resume is not that hard to craft. Learn everything you need to know in our article, A Web-Ready Resume Can Be a Major Advantage in Your Job Search. 5. Text-based resumes are the ugly ducklings of the resume world, but you can dress them up a bit. Job-seekers and resume writers have strived for years to develop ways to make resumes visually appealing and plagiarized thesis graphically interesting — through font choices, bold and italic type, rule lines, bullets, centering, indents, and more — only to have all that formatting thrown out the window in the e-resume world. Text-based resumes are the antitheses of the gorgeous documents that job-seekers hand to employers at interviews and career fairs. The fact is that most online resumes aren’t intended to be visually attractive because their main function is not to be seen but to be searched in keyword-searchable databases.

Still, they may be seen at some point. Employers may see the engg resume you’ve posted on an online job board. Their primary interest is accounting whether the content of your resume (indicated largely by keywords) shows you to be qualified for ms electrical the opening you’ve applied for and/or for which the employer is searching the database. But once the match has been made, the employer may actually look at your resume. So, even though — without formatting — you can’t make it look as fetching as your print version, you can still ensure that it looks decent.

For example, you can use keyboard characters, such as equal signs (=====), plus signs (++++++) and tildes ( ) to topics for research make rule lines. Ms Electrical. You can use asterisks (*****), hyphens (—–), lower-case letter o’s (ooooo), and carats () to minimal effects thesis make bullets. You can use UPPER CASE for emphasis in headings. See how some of these techniques are used in this sample text chronological resume. Now, one type of e-resume that is meant to look good is the HTML or Web-based resume. This type of resume resides on a Web page, in part, so it can be seen, so it should be visually pleasing. Ms Electrical Thesis. While it’s not too difficult to make an HTML resume look attractive, the more you know about Web design, the better you can make the resume look.

You can also transform your Web resume into a Web portfolio that extensively shows off your skills and accomplishments. Accounting Topics Paper. If you’re not confident of your skills, you might want to enlist a Web designer or resume writer in ms electrical thesis, this process. A number of services have emerged in recent years that enable you to create Web-based and multimedia resumes that usually reside on a service’s site. For Research. See examples of these in our article New Web-Based Twists On Resumes: Best Ways to engg thesis Construct a Resume? 6. Text resumes are highly versatile.

Once you have a text-based resume, you can do a lot with it, including: Post it in its entirety on many job boards. Paste it piece-by-piece into the profile forms of job boards, such as Monster.com, that have a rigid setup and don’t allow resumes to be posted as is. Online Help With Statement. Paste it into engg the body of an e-mail and send it to employers. Remember The Titans. Convert it to a Web-based HTML resume. 7. You must tailor the use of your resume to each employer’s or job board’s instructions. As you might have guessed from what you’ve read so far in this article, there is no universally accepted way to submit your e-resume to engg an employer. Some employers want your resume as an attachment, usually as a Word document. Others want your resume as text pasted into the body of an e-mail message. Still others want you to paste your resume into an online form.

If you absolutely cannot find out an plagiarized thesis employer’s preference, the thesis following is a fairly safe bet: A formatted, “print” resume in document (.doc because some older versions of Word cannot open .docx files)) form sent as an business tips attachment to an e-mail message to ms electrical engg thesis the employer. And here’s a bit of common sense: Can you imagine how many resumes employers receive with files entitled “resume.doc”? Use your name as part of the file name for your resume. Example: JaySmithResume.doc. A text-based e-resume stripped of media effects thesis, most formatting and pasted directly into the same e-mail message into which your print resume is attached. Since the employer has this text-based resume, he or she can choose whether or not to open the attached version, based on compatibility, virus protection, and company policy on opening attachments. Engg Thesis. For a truly complete e-mailable, electronic package, add a text-based cover letter stripped of writer service, formatting and pasted directly into the same e-mail message into which your print resume is engg attached. Pat Kendall and Susan Whitcomb note in a book about online resumes that your cover letter can contain verbiage that points out the options you’re providing: “I have attached an MS Word version of my resume, as well as pasted a plain-text version below. (If the plain-text version is sufficient for your database, it is not necessary to download the dr king plagiarized formatted attachment.)” The same lack of universality goes for job boards. Some enable you to paste your resume into a form in any format, but the thesis board automatically converts it to text.

Others require that the with statement resume be in text format to begin with before you can paste it into the form. These variations underscore the importance of having a text-based e-resume. While researching this article, the Quintessential Careers staff experimented with posting resumes to several sites. Engg Thesis. We learned that a text-based e-resume is with statement not only vital for boards with a text-resume requirement — but also extremely helpful when the boards convert any resume to text. Ms Electrical. Just because a job board turns your resume into text doesn’t mean it will look decent; it’s better to have a text resume to begin with so you know it will look appropriate when pasted in. Also note that some job boards/employers limit the with number of words or the ms electrical engg thesis size of the file that you can paste into accounting any one field. 8. Take advantage of job-board features to protect yourself and get the most out of ms electrical engg thesis, posting your e-resume on the boards.

Some permit you to ms electrical engg submit a list of assignment, your top skills. Resume submission forms generally have questions in addition to a place to submit the actual resume. Engg Thesis. Some questions are mandatory; others are optional. When a question is business tips optional, consider whether it is to your advantage to answer it.

Answering questions about salary or location requirements, for example, may be too limiting. 9. A few finishing touches can increase your e-resume’s effectiveness. Here are a few tips from the thesis experts for getting more out of your e-resume: Use the “Properties” feature in MS Word to boost the online help with statement keyword searchability of your attached Word resume. This feature, found under Word’s File menu, enables you to insert keywords, comments, and a link to your Web-based resume if you have one. You can use the “Comments” field to thesis enter geographic and relocation preferences. Business. A similar trick applies to using HTML commands called meta tags in creating a Web-based resume.
